Tanita RD-901 is a Body Composition Scale/Monitor designed for healthier living by giving you an insight into key health indicators that will enable you to monitor the impact of changes to your lifestyle. This scale lets you monitor the impact of a change of diet on the body to make sure you are dieting the healthy way or fine-tune your fitness programme by monitoring progress of Muscle Mass and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and monitor the level of Visceral Fat which has been linked as a possible risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes and/or heart disease.
Tanita Body Composition Monitors use Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, which sends a safe, low-level electrical signal from foot electrodes through the body. It is easy for the signal to flow through fluids in the muscle and other body tissues but meets resistance as it passes through body fat, as it contains little fluid. This resistance is called impedance. Based on your gender, age, height, athlete body or normal body and total weight, the impedance readings are passed through medically researched mathematical formulas by the monitor to calculate your body composition. BIA is quick and non-invasive and is one of the most thorough and reliable ways to measure body composition, clinically comparable to DEXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) and hydrostatic (underwater) weighing.
